On 1-3 May 2026, one of the largest youth conferences in Central Asia - the Tashkent International Model United Nations Conference (TIMUN 2026) - was organised at the initiative of Westminster International University in Tashkent in partnership with the UN Offices in Uzbekistan, El-Yurt Umidi Foundation, the Youth Affairs Agency of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and Kapitalbank.
This year, the event has brought together over 400 young delegates from Uzbekistan and abroad to discuss pressing international issues through a simulation of the United Nations conference. The conference was held under the slogan “MUN For You(th)!”, demonstrating the active participation and leadership potential of young people in addressing international issues.
The opening ceremony, held at the Presidential Academy of the Republic of Uzbekistan, featured welcome addresses from:
• Alisher Sadullaev, Director of the Youth Affairs Agency of the Republic of Uzbekistan
• Nizom Kadirov, Deputy Rector for Youth Affairs, WIUT
• Gulnoza Ismailova, Executive Director of the “El-Yurt Umidi” Foundation
• Anvar Meliboev, Head of the UN Information Office
• Oksana Lyndina, Director and Adviser to the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Kapitalbank
The conference covered a wide range of topical international issues. In particular, discussions centred on the role of mental health in ensuring peace and security, combating cybercrime using artificial intelligence, bridging the digital divide, supporting women and vulnerable groups, the impact of urbanisation on public health, as well as environmental sustainability, clean drinking water supply and the preservation of cultural heritage.
TIMUN 2026 once again demonstrated its role as a vital regional platform for shaping an active, responsible and globally minded younger generation.
