Course Overview
This is a new doctoral route delivered at Westminster International University in Tashkent within the University of Westminster’s Westminster Business School PhD Programme.
Doctoral researchers will be based in Tashkent for the duration of their studies, while the final award – PhD or MPhil — will be conferred by the University of Westminster, London.
The programme combines close, locally accessible supervision at WIUT with the academic standards, examination conventions and quality assurance of a UK doctoral programme. Researchers will join a small and carefully supervised cohort working across Management and Economics, with access to research training, library resources and academic communities on both sides of the partnership.
The route is designed for candidates who wish to conduct original, high-quality research with a clear theoretical, empirical, policy or practice-based contribution.
Supervision
Each doctoral researcher will have a supervisory team, including a Director of Studies from the University of Westminster and a second supervisor based at WIUT.

Applications are welcome from Uzbek nationals, graduates of the Uzbek higher education system and international applicants from any country, provided they meet the standard entry requirements. Candidates currently in full-time employment may apply on a part-time basis.

Your Doctoral Journey
STAGE 1
Application
Submit your application to WIUT, including your research proposal, transcripts, references, English language evidence and CV.
STAGE 2
Shortlisting
WIUT carries out an initial shortlisting of applications based on the published entry requirements and the fit of the proposed research topic.
STAGE 3
Online Interview
Shortlisted applicants are interviewed online by the University of Westminster admissions panel. The panel assesses the quality of the research proposal, the applicant’s preparedness for doctoral study and their motivation.
STAGE 4
Offer and Enrolment
Successful applicants receive a formal offer setting out the award, mode of study, duration and supervisory team. They then complete enrolment and induction before the start of term.
STAGE 5
Research, Review and Viva
Researchers develop their doctoral project under supervision. Progress is reviewed annually, with an upgrade viva confirming progression from MPhil to PhD. The programme leads towards thesis submission and final oral examination.
Entry Requirements
Applicants should normally have:
an Upper Second-Class Bachelor’s degree with Honours, or equivalent;
a relevant Master’s degree, or a qualification judged equivalent by the admissions panel;
a well-developed research proposal in Management or Economics suitable for doctoral-level enquiry;
English language proficiency of at least IELTS 6.5 overall, with no element below 6.0, or an accepted equivalent.
Applicants educated within the Uzbek higher education system may refer to the published grade-equivalency guidance. This guidance is provided to assist interpretation of local qualifications and does not restrict eligibility.

1. Certified copies of degree transcripts and certificates;
2. A research proposal of approximately 2,000–4,000 words;
3. Evidence of English language proficiency, or grounds for exemption;
4. Two academic references;
