LEARNING AND ASSESSMENT
The teaching and learning strategy adopted in the course makes use of a variety of teaching methods to ensure that material is presented effectively to students and in a way that emphasises the practical nature of the subject. The course consists of a range of methods such as formal lectures used as a method for providing a firm grounding in the theory; seminars where case studies are frequently used to provide context for, and to demonstrate the application of theory; and workshops where theoretical or practical in nature problems are explored.
You will be provided with a range of additional resources, which can be accessed through the University on-line learning content management system, and textbooks, academic journals, and other materials available in the University’s learning resource centre, and software systems are provided in the computer labs. Teaching staff are often engaged in research or commercial activities, and this ensures that the students gain an understanding of contemporary issues in the field.
There are two types of assessment, namely formative assessment and summative assessment; each has a different function, but both contribute to and help you measure learning. Formative assessment lets you see where you are in your learning and what you have learned so far; summative assessment measures how much you have learned in a way that contributes to your overall grades. Assessments are designed not only to evaluate your learning but also to help you develop, enhance, and improve your lifelong learning and transferable skills, supporting your career development and employment opportunities.
