The module offers an in-depth exploration of the creative economy's evolution and its current global landscape. Students will examine the shift from industrial to knowledge-based and culture-based economies, understanding how creative industries have developed across different global contexts. Art Curation and Collecting Practices module explores the evolving landscape of art curation and collecting, examining how cultural institutions, private collectors, and digital platforms shape the future of the art market. Students will critically engage with curatorial strategies, exhibition-making, and collection management within contemporary and historical contexts. The module integrates theoretical perspectives with hands-on practice, enabling students to develop curatorial concepts, assess market trends, and explore the impact of digital innovation on collecting practices. Through case studies, site visits, and industry collaborations, students will develop the practical skills and critical awareness necessary for careers in curatorship and collection management within museums, galleries, art fairs, as well as emerging digital platforms.

Assessment: The two-component assessment structure develops key skills in curatorial planning, research, and communication. These assessments prepare students for professional roles across curatorial and collection-based contexts. Students will work in groups to develop a curatorial or collecting concept in response to a live or simulated industry brief. Each student will produce a curated portfolio that presents an original curatorial or collecting project. Students are expected to demonstrate independent research, strategic decision-making, and creative presentation. This format mirrors professional curatorial practice and allows students to apply critical and theoretical knowledge in an integrated, visually engaging format.

Please note: Not all option modules will necessarily be offered in any one year. In addition, timetabling and limited spaces may mean you cannot do your first choice of modules.
