Guest Lecture by Katalin Bokor at WIUT
We had the pleasure of hosting guest lecture by Katalin Bokor, a leading economist from UNCTAD specializing in international trade and creative economies, as part of the 4th World Conference on Creative Economy.
Katalin is a prominent voice at UNCTAD, known for her insights on the creative economy as the lead author of the Creative Economy Outlook reports. She champions capacity-building initiatives on trade and creativity in developing countries, advocating for innovation worldwide.
This lecture provided a fantastic opportunity for our students and faculty to engage with Katalin and deepen their understanding of the vital role the creative economy plays in today’s world.
Westminster International University in Tashkent achieved 2nd place in the Ziyo Cup eSports tournament in the Dota 2 discipline, competing against nearly 400 students from Tashkent and the Tashkent region
Organised by the International Foundation for the Development of Science and Education (Ziyo Forum), this tournament, held from 5th to 7th November at the Cyber Arena, aimed to engage young people in competitive gaming and foster the growth of eSports in Uzbekistan. Participants from 50 state and non-state universities vied for a prize pool of 22.5 million UZS.
The Ziyo Cup reflects Uzbekistan's commitment to nurturing talent in eSports and IT, aligning with the Presidential Decree issued in November 2022, which promotes a safe and supportive ecosystem for eSports. WIUT is honoured to contribute to this exciting landscape and congratulates its students on their impressive achievement in this national competition.
WIUT Shines at Bloomberg Global Trading Challenge 2024
The Bloomberg Global Trading Challenge 2024 has officially concluded, and WIUT students have once again proven their excellence. Over six weeks, 34 students across 8 teams represented WIUT in a fierce competition against 13,029 students from 2,520 teams worldwide.
Our top-performing team, DT Capital, achieved an outstanding 39th place globally, placing them in the top ~1% of all participants. They also ranked 1st in Central Asia and 4th in Asia (by country)—a monumental achievement that highlights their strategy, teamwork, and financial acumen.
A huge congratulations to all WIUT teams for their dedication and exceptional performance. Beyond rankings, the challenge offered invaluable real-world experience in portfolio management, risk analysis, and market strategy development.
Representing Uzbekistan for the third time, WIUT students have further honed their analytical and decision-making skills, setting themselves up for success in the world of finance and beyond.
WIUT, ACDF, and IT Park Launch Creative Incubator Programme
On November 29, 2024, Westminster International University in Tashkent, the Art and Culture Development Foundation (ACDF), and IT Park Uzbekistan signed a Memorandum of Cooperation, officially launching the Creative Incubator programme. This initiative aims to support young talent and advance the creative economy in Uzbekistan. The Creative Incubator is designed to unite the efforts of the educational, cultural and technological sectors to create favorable conditions for innovation and development of creative industries. As a key step in implementing the law “On Creative Economy,” it builds on ideas presented at the World Conference on Creative Economy 2024, offering crucial support for aspiring professionals and entrepreneurs in the creative sector.
