Employment policy on discrimination

Context for Non-Discrimination

A key component of our Employment Policy is the commitment to Non-Discrimination. We recognize that diversity enriches the learning experience and strengthens our community. By upholding non-discrimination principles, we strive to create an inclusive environment where individuals are valued for their unique perspectives and contributions, free from bias or prejudice. This commitment is essential in promoting equal opportunities and fostering mutual respect among all university members.

The Code of Ethics is a cornerstone document that outlines the fundamental principles and standards of conduct expected from all members of our community, including faculty, staff, and students. It serves as a guide to promote integrity, professionalism, and ethical behavior in all university activities. The Code fosters a culture of respect, responsibility, and accountability, ensuring that everyone contributes to a positive and productive academic environment.

Specific Provisions

Below are the numbered provisions from our Code of Ethics related to non-discrimination:

Provision 1.4

The university commits to eliminating both direct and indirect discrimination based on gender in its hiring, compensation, and promotion practices.

University actively works to ensure that no person is disadvantaged or treated unfairly in employment matters due to their gender. Both overt discrimination (direct) and policies or practices that inadvertently disadvantage a particular gender (indirect) are addressed.

Provision 1.5

Additional efforts are aimed at reducing the disparity between the number of male and female representatives in leadership positions.

The university recognizes existing imbalances in leadership roles and is taking proactive steps to promote gender equality at higher levels of administration and decision-making.

Provision 3.11

Faculty and staff must refrain from the following actions:

  • Harassing, threatening, or insulting any student, university employee, or visitor in any manner.
  • Using derogatory or inappropriate language, behaving offensively or improperly, or exhibiting unacceptable conduct based on differences in skin color, age, disability, ethnic origin, gender, marital status, nationality, race, or religion.
  • Engaging in behavior that undermines the dignity of others or creates an intimidating, hostile environment for students, staff, and visitors of the university.

This outlines unacceptable behaviors and emphasizes the responsibility of faculty and staff to maintain a respectful and safe environment for everyone. It highlights the importance of treating all individuals with dignity and refraining from any form of harassment or discrimination.

Recruitment Policy

In alignment with our commitment to non-discrimination and inclusivity, our Recruitment Policy ensures fair and equal opportunities for all candidates. Specifically, the policy states:

"Here at WIUT, all of our employees, regardless of their race, color, religion, gender, age, disability status, culture, and viewpoints, feel respected, valued, and appreciated. Our university as an employer provides equal opportunities to all candidates for vacancies and strives to create a welcoming environment for all."

This underscores the university's dedication to fostering a diverse workforce where every employee is acknowledged and valued. By providing equal opportunities during the hiring process, we aim to attract a wide range of talents and perspectives, enhancing the overall quality and effectiveness of our institution.
