Context:

The university has developed an environment and a set of policies that encourages the development of academic scholarship amongst all colleagues in particular it wishes to promote a professional relationship with academic staff that encourages a commitment to and delivery of an assured level of quality of teaching, learning, research, scholarship and corporate engagement. This requires a culture of mutual respect, personal responsibility and a commitment to the highest standards of professional engagement. The university offers a range of University of Westminster validated courses, and has developed a range of related subject areas covering for example; Business, Business Information Systems, Commercial Law, Economics, Finance, Management, Marketing, Global English, etc.A Research Assistant (RA) will be assigned to a research or research projects, under the general direction of the Dean of Graduate School and in particular a member of Academic staff for day to day management and supervision.  Research Assistants are expected to seek to develop their research, academic and professional capabilities and capacity, and to seek to pursue further qualification study at Masters and/or PhD level. And have at least one submitted paper to any peer-reviewed international journal (Scopus or Web of Science indexed) and publish two local papers during the full tenure of research assistantship. And actively participate during Research seminars and international conferences and present at least one joint work during the academic year.

Research Assistants are not permanent staff (hired for a max. period of two years). Research Assistantship scheme has two parts 6 month probation period and 18 month contract.  

 Summary of Position and Key Responsibilities

To act as an assistant to a research project(s) and to contribute to the research and teaching of Westminster International University in Tashkent. The person will be appointed to a research project or projects as required/ based on request of academic staff

Principal Responsibilities

  • To assist in a research project as directed by a Member or team of Academic staff;
  • To undertake research related activities such as literature review, data collection, analysis and synthesis;
  • To seek to publish research outcomes in conjunction with a member(s) of the School(s);
  • To participate in weekly research seminars, training sessions, research development processes and professional development activities including conferences, workshops, seminars and forums;
  • To assist in the seeking of local or international funding opportunities for research projects;
  • To assist in the administrative arrangements of research activities as directed by a Supervisor, Dean or Associate dean Graduate School;
  • To teach on a range of modules in an appropriate subject area (starting from second semester), and the associated marking and review process, including support to students;
  • To undertake the administrative and organisational requirements of teaching, and related professional educational provision;
  • To engage in institutional projects relating to the mission and direction of research strategy of the university;
  • To engage in the community and corporate well being of the university and participate in the professional requirements for the institutional development;
  • To undertake other duties at a similar level of responsibility and challenge as and when required in consultation with the Supervisor, Associate Dean, Dean or Deputy Rectors.

The appointee should be able to demonstrate the following:

Qualification

  • Candidates are expected to hold, preferably, an international degree and/or relevant professional qualification (at least a bachelor's degree).
  • Candidates should be fluent in English either with 6.5 IELTS or a subject qualification taught and assessed in English as per the policy on Academic staff.

Experience

  • Curiosity in research and interest in teaching.
  • Research potential in the subject area, evidence of current scholarly and/or professional activity.
  • An understanding of the requirements for teaching in H.E. in an international environment.
  • Evidence of awareness of professional interest and scholarly activity in the area.
  • Evidence of good interpersonal skills, including presentation and communication skills.
  • Appropriate level of computer literacy.
  • Good writing skills evidenced by any writing sample (i.e., senior project).
  • Good computer software or programming skills (i.e., Stata, SPSS or NVIVO, R), (subject related, for example for Economics candidates)

  • The applicants will need to demonstrate their commitment, creativity, flexibility, passion and enthusiasm for the subject/research area.
  • The applicants should also be able to meet deadlines, work in a team and be willing to learn new material and produce original work
