Westminster International University in Tashkent (WIUT) organized a session in collaboration with Botir Kobilov, Harvard Business School Research Associate and PhD student. The talk was dedicated to the role of economy in society and economic reforms implemented in Uzbekistan. In the lecture, curious students of WIUT together with the members of other communities such as University of World Economy and Diplomacy (UWED) and others participated.
Mr. Kobilov began the session touching upon the fundamental function of economics linking it with involvement of state in economy of the country. He also accentuated market failures, importance of competition, and monetary policy bringing real-life examples. Outlining advantages of governmental act against monopoly to defend consumers’ rights, to promote competition, he also put forward the idea of state handling the duty of financial supervisor, not regulator and eliminating state assets in banking system.
The second part of the meeting turned into Q&A session where guests were warmly welcome to ask questions, share ideas and thoughts. Questions mainly concerned appropriate investment decisions, international trade, and productivity in domestic production to which guests got detailed answers.
