On 18th April 2019, the Center for Policy Research and Outreach (CPRO) was launched at Westminster International University in Tashkent (WIUT).
The launch gathered partners from international development agencies based in Tashkent who, along with the government and the private sector, expect findings to inform policy and practice. Research is already ongoing in areas like human capital and labor; agriculture, water and rural development, and; silk road connectivity (sectors crossing national boundaries). Other themes such as gender, environment, governance, and digitization, overlap these sectors.
CPRO is becoming a platform where researchers, policymakers, and implementing agencies come together for dialogue supported by evidence leading to stronger decisions and better operations. Being housed at WIUT gives the Center the expertise of an established University with the flexibility of a pioneering startup. According to Director, Peter Malvicini, “CPRO goes beyond simply managing knowledge, it’s dedicated to discovering new ways toward effective policy and practice, inspiring the next generation of leaders in a rapidly changing society.”
