Information Management

The module aims to assist students in understanding information systems, assessing the different information needs of organisations, and being able to assess the increasing importance of e-business in the commercial world.

Studying this module, you will learn and understand:

  • Business impact of information systems. Strategic advantage of information in organisations.  Systems for information and knowledge management.
  • Information systems in business and management: strategic, tactical, and operational approaches to IS – technical, behavioural and socio-technical.
  • Information systems technology: hardware, software, database management, telecommunications, data communications, networking and connectivity, mobile communications.
  • Information resource management, managing information services, planning and implementing information systems. Success and failure of information systems. Controlling information systems: security and risk. International aspects and issues.

  • Role of ICT in providing the infrastructure and mechanisms for delivery of business, using technologies such as the Internet, Intranet and Extranet. Awareness of the local, national and global opportunities provided by e-business.
