CERTIFICATE OF INTERNATIONAL FOUNDATION STUDIES (CIFS) Level 1 and Level 2 (PRE-UNIVERSITY COURSE)
1. WHAT IS PRE-UNIVERSITY (PU) COURSE?
Pre University (PU) courses are the University courses designed for students of Tashkent lyceums/colleges who wish to enter Westminster International University in Tashkent (WIUT). The main purpose of PU courses is to improve the English and Mathematics skills of future entrants to WIUT. The courses are delivered in part-time mode, where the same Academic Quality Assurance process and academic delivery structure with WIUT university courses are applied. These courses are divided into 2 levels: CIFS 1 and CIFS 2.
2. IS THERE ANY AGE LIMIT?
Minimum age for studying at PU courses is 15 by the beginning of the academic year (1st October).
3. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

Please note that WIUT reserves the right to alter the entry requirements as the need arises.
4. ENTRANCE EXAMS
PU Exams will be held at the end of August and the beginning of September. The English exam should last for 1 hour and 30 minutes and the Mathematics exam should last for 1 hour and 10 minutes.
5. START OF SEMESTERS
- The beginning of the first semester is expected to be the 26th September 2011.
6. WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF PU COURSES?
Successful completion of CIFS 2 will provide entry to Westminster International University in Tashkent, provided that the applicant fulfils all of the other entry requirements
7. DO I GET A DIPLOMA?
1. To be eligible for the award of a Certificate of International Foundation Studies, a student must have:
- obtained at least 60 credits at Credit Level 2; and
- satisfied the requirements contained within any course specific regulations for the relevant Course Scheme.
2. To be eligible for the award of a Certificate of Competence, a student must have:
- obtained at least 60 credits at Credit Level 1; and
- satisfied the requirements contained within any course specific regulations for the relevant Course Scheme.
3. The University will also issue a transcript at both Levels 1 and 2.
4. To be able to enter CIFS Level 3 a student should have passed 60 credits at Level 2 AND the mark for BEAP 2 should be 50% or higher.
8. DURATION AND CONTENT OF COURSE
Each course normally last 2 semesters; in each semester students have 13 teaching weeks, including a maximum of 2 guided independent study weeks [GIS] to do course assignments and there will also be a break between semesters.
At CIFS 1, students study:
- Basics of English for Academic Purposes 1 (BEAP 1); 2 sessions a week; each one lasts for two academic hours
- Basics of Quantitative Skills 1 (BaQS 1); 2 sessions a week; each one lasts for two academic hours
At CIFS 2, students study:
- Basics of English for Academic Purposes 2 (BEAP 2); 2 sessions a week; each one lasts for two academic hours
- Basics of Quantitative Skills 2 (BaQS 2); 2 sessions a week; each one lasts for two academic hours

Payments are made in UZS in amounts corresponding to the rate of the Central Bank, in cash or bank transfer.
10. WHAT ARE THE REQUIRED DOCUMENTS FOR SUBMISSION?
The following documents are required to apply for the PU course:
- Application form
- 4 photos (3×4 cm)
- Copy of birth certificate or passport
- Information/reference letter that confirms your currently study at a lyceum/college in Tashkent;
11. WHO WILL BE TEACHING?
Faculty staff of the University
12. ACCOMMODATION
Accommodation is NOT provided for PU students, since students to these courses come from the lyceums and colleges of Tashkent city.
13. IF I STUDY AT PU, CAN I APPLY FOR A WIUT SCHOLARSHIP IN THE FUTURE?
Yes, however, PU courses are not designed to train students for WIUT scholarship tests.
