Annual Conference 2005
Background to the Conference
The centrality of competition for a dynamic market economy and importance of competitiveness of individual firms in order to compete internationally is widely accepted in Uzbekistan. The question of how this can be achieved has been chosen as the theme for WIUT’s Annual conference.
The conference “Business at the Heart of Central Asia” sought to:
Articulate both national and international perspectives by means of attracting international key note speakers alongside presentations from local researchers.
Bridge the business-academic divide. There are relatively few forums in which the academic community can learn from the experience of the business community, and business leaders can draw from the insights of academics.
Comprehensively address the issues by running panels on business, economic, legal, technological and educational aspects of competition and competitiveness.
Develop a new generation of scholars by providing training before and after the conference for junior participants in presentation and research skills, and organizing a special conference track for students.
Encourage participation from the regions of Uzbekistan by providing scholarships to cover travel and accommodation expenses for those travelling from outside of Tashkent. Their perspective is of great value, as it is the potential for them to disseminate perspectives and ideas gained from the conference.
