Admission FAQ

Enquiries and applications are welcome throughout the year. To be admitted to the University you will need to have satisfied the admissions criteria for the course.The University of Westminster approves the admissions criteria for the Westminster International University in Tashkent courses. You will be required to complete a Westminster International University in Tashkent application form, at any time of the year, prior to the period of intended academic study. The Academic Registry office will consider your application and if you are considered to have the potential to study at WIUT you will receive an offer, either Conditional or Unconditional. An unconditional offer is only made if you have met all the entry requirements. If you receive an unconditional offer or meet the conditions specified in the offer letter, you will have to bring to the University proof of your qualifications, etc, before you will be enrolled on a course. In addition to being accepted on to a University of Westminster course you will be admitted to Westminster International University in Tashkent and will be subject to WIUT regulations as well as the academic regulations of the University of Westminster.

Application

Applications can be made at any time and submitted to the WIUT Academic Registrar’s office (see details Q.3).

WIUT Application form can be downloaded and filled in. Completed hard copy must be submitted to the WIUT Academic Registrar’s Office. Completed e-version can also be e-mailed to admission@wiut.uz .

Applications after the start of the course of study will not be accepted for that year.

1. WHAT COURSES DOES THE UNIVERSITY RUN?

    WIUT offers the following courses:

  • Certificate of International Foundation Studies (CIFS), full-time
  • Certificate of International Foundation Studies (CIFS), part-time
  • Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Business Administration
  • Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Economics with Finance
  • Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Commercial Law
  • Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Business Information Systems
  • Masters of Arts (MA) in International Business and Management
  • Postgraduate Certificate of Special Study in Teaching and Learning

Graduates will be awarded with University of Westminster degrees

2. WHAT ARE THE ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS?

3. SUBMISSION DATE FOR APPLICATIONS?

Applications are accepted throughout the year. In order to apply to the University a candidate has to complete a WIUT application form and submit it in a file folder together with 4 photos to the Registrar’s office

The application will be processed by the Registrar’s office and a ‘conditional’ or ‘unconditional’ offer letters will be issued

The Academic Registrar’s Office is open to receive applications: Monday – Friday 9:00 – 13:00 and 14:00 – 17:00. Read about the mathematics exam here

4. SUBMISSION DATE OF THE DOCUMENTS?

To participate in the entrance exams, only application, copy of passport and 4 photos (3×4cm) are needed.

After successfully passing the exams, a candidate must submit the documents at any date prior to the enrolment. The full pack of documents include:

  • School leaving certificate (attestat)
  • 8 photos (3×4)
  • medical certificate (form - 086)
  • Copy of the passport
  • Copy of military recruit registration card (for male applicants only)

5. WHAT ARE “CONDITIONAL” AND “UNCONDITIONAL” OFFER LETTERS ABOUT?

A candidate should prove his/her academic qualifications by providing certificates (for example: school leaving certificate, IELTS certificate, etc.). An admission officer will look at candidate’s profile and issue a conditional or an unconditional offer letter.

A conditional offer is made when a candidate has not fulfilled all the WIUT requirements (for example: completion of secondary education, passing the IELTS exam and etc.). The condition for entry will be stated on the letter.

An unconditional offer is made when a candidate has fulfilled all the WIUT requirements (see above). Admission/Exam Board will certify the unconditional offer letter.

6. WHAT KIND OF EXAMS SHOULD A CANDIDATE PASS FOR ADMISSION?

A candidate must pass an English test (IELTS), which will be organised by the British Council. The British Council runs IELTS tests once a month (IELTS Test Dates ). A candidate should cover all of the expenses concerning the IELTS. (What is IELTS?)

A candidate should successfully pass the WIUT Entrance test - a Maths examination prepared in English and approved by the University of Westminster (London)

7. HOW MANY TIMES DOES WIUT RUN THE ENTRANCE TESTS?

IELTS:

IELTS is taken at British Council. Check the exam date with the British Council in Uzbekistan or offices of British council in your country. (What is IELTS?)

Math Test:

Prospective self-financed students can take math exams starting in January. The exam will be organized every month till August 2010. A candidate is given 3 attempts until he/she gets the passmark (40%).

There will be a separate mathematics exam for candidates applying for scholarship.

Both self-financed and scholarship candidates must register in the Academic Registrar’s office to take the entrance exam on mathematics.

8. HOW MUCH IS THE TUITION FEE?

The Fee is

  • $5,200 USD (per year) for local students;
  • $5,500 USD (per year) for international students starting from 2011-2012 academic year. The fee is payable in Uzbek national currency based on the Central Bank exchange rate on the day of payment with cash or bank transfer in two instalments.
  • 9. SCHOLARSHIPS.

    There are limited number of Scholarships available for those who start from the course of the Certificate of International Foundation Studies. The scholarship fully covers the tuition fee.

    Exact number of scholarships is confirmed by the Admission Board every year
    There are no Scholarships available for applicants who start from the Degree courses (Direct entry students)

    A candidate applying for a Scholarship must sit WIUT Scholarship Test - a Maths and Logic examination in English approved by the University of Westminster (London)

    Scholarships cover the tuition fees only; it does not provide stipends Students who get a scholarship must undertake the obligation to work for the governmental sector for 5 years

    Only citizens of the Republic of Uzbekistan may apply for Scholarships.

    10. WHAT ARE THE CRITERIA FOR SELECTING CANDIDATES FOR SCHOLARSHIPS?

    A Candidate must sit a WIUT Scholarship Test - a Math’s and Logic examination prepared in English approved by the University of Westminster (London) All candidates will be ranked according to the criteria approved by the WIUT Academic Council.

    The criterion for ranking Scholarship applicants is based on IELTS weight 60%, and 40% for the WIUT Scholarship test result.

    11. WHAT ARE THE CONDITIONS FOR A CANDIDATE TO REGISTER FOR THE WIUT SCHOLARSHIP TEST?

    A Candidate has to pass the IELTS test before the WIUT Scholarship test or at least be registered for the IELTS test at the British Council.

    When a candidate comes to register for the WIUT Scholarship Test Academic Registrar’s office will ask the candidate to provide either IELTS certificate or will check registration for that in the British Council.

    12. WHEN DOES THE SCHOLARSHIP TEST TAKE PLACE?

    13. ARE THERE OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS TO STUDY IN THE UK?

    All studies are based in Tashkent. But if a student wishes to study in London he/she should bear all expenses (the tuition fee in London is about 7,000 – 8,000 UK Pounds per year, living expenses excluded).
